Matt Giraud doesn’t make the Top 12

February 27th, 2009 by admin

That hurts. Matt Giraud didn’t make the Top 12 on this years American Idol. It just goes to show how tough it is this year. One bad performance can kill you. Matt’s choice to sing Coldplay - Viva La Vida last night really hurt him. I was still hoping that he would squeeze his way through off of his previous great performances, but that wasn’t enough.

Before the results were given Ryan Seacrest asked Matt Giraud, “Do you think you did enough?” Matt replied, “I feel like I didn’t get the chance to do enough yet, but if I don’t make it through I’d love to show em that I can do what the want and do the music that got me here.”

Jeanine Vailes, Matt Giraud, Kris Allen and Megan Corkrey are told that only 1 of them is through

Last night Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta were voted through to the Top 12. I think we can expect that Matt Giraud will get a second chance in the Wildcard Round. I would be shocked if he didn’t. He has had one bad performance. It is just unfortunate that it happened on such an important night. We know he is capable of so much more.

Next week Group 3 will perform for 3 more spots in the Top 12. Group 3 consists of: Alex Wagner-Trugman, Jorge Nunez, Ju’Not Joyner, Nathaniel Marshall, Scott MacIntyre, Von Smith, Lil Rounds, Arianna Afsar, Felicia Barton, Kendall Beard, Kristen McNamara, Taylor Vaifanua.

The week after that we will get to see the Wildcard and I am sure Matt Giraud will get a second chance. He definitely got knocked down this week, but I think he will really learn from it and he will bounce back. Keep your head up Matt.

So there are 6 spots left in the Top 12. Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Alexis Grace and Allison Iraheta are through. Looks like a heavily talented guy season (4 guys, 2 girls).

Matt Giraud sings Coldplay on Idol

February 26th, 2009 by admin

Last night Group 2 of the Top 36 performed including Matt Giraud. I hate to say it, but I think the judges had a bit of a point about Matt’s performance last night. I definitely don’t think that was Matt’s best performance on this years American Idol, and I would think that he probably feels the same way.

Matt Giraud sang Coldplay - Viva La Vida which is a song that I really like, but I don’t know if it is the right song for Giraud. There are a lot of vocal high points in that song that I just don’t think Matt pulled off very well. Stick with the blues Matt.

JUDGES COMMENTS

Kara DioGuardiKara DioGuardi said, “Matt you blew me away in Hollywood Week. I mean just blew me away, and tonight I’m just not blown away. You know that song is just not the type of song you should be singing. You’re a bluesy, soulful guy and that was lost in that performance. I know you were trying to creat that, but that song doesn’t lend itself to that kind of interpretation. You’re a really good singer, and I’m not sure that showed that side of you.”

Paula AbdulPaul Abdul said, “I think you’re ranked right up there as my top, top, top notch from Hollywood Week, but then again we get to see you with your instrument playing and everything feels comfortable. It was a risky song to pick. You’re soulful and you’re trying to instill that soul into a rock song. I saw your rehearsal and your performance here was far better than the rehearsal I saw. I don’t know if it was the right song for you to pick, but I did hear you go for it, and bring what you brought to it. So I hope you are here next week”. Has Paula been drinking? Does she not know how the show works this year? Next week is Group 3.

Simon Cowell “Matt I’m actually going to repeat what the girls just said…, it was verging on a horrible performance. It wasn’t just the fact that the song was so bad. It was how you performed it. You turned from someone very cool with the piano singing Ray Charles into a sort of wannabe popstar. In a very jerky uncomfortable way and it’s really put me off you. Sorry. I mean I like your voice. You just did the wrong thing”.

Randy JacksonRandy Jackson said, “You know what I gotta agree with Simon, but the thing is you got mad talent so I’m still pulling for you because you’re one of my favorites in this. Watch that back with that Ray Charles. You have to sing difficult songs that you can go at vocally because you’ve got it like that. The simple song stay away from them.”

Definitely not the best comments of the night. It shows you just how hard it is to get into the Top 12 on this years American Idol. I don’t like this new format. in previous years, the really good singers could have a couple below average performances and still get voted through as the audience got to know their strengths. They had more time to find themselves (don’t forget these people are not professionals). The contestants don’t have any room for error right now, and I don’t think that is right.

We all know Matt has tons of talent and that he has a lot more in him, but I don’t know if he will be voted through tonight. If he is it is because people know what he can do. If he isn’t we will definitely see him in the Wildcard round.

Group 1 results! 3 make the Top 12

February 19th, 2009 by admin

Well the last 2 nights really let us know how tough it will be to make it into the Top 12 on this years American Idol. Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver are through. Only one guy, one girl and the next highest vote getter. So we don’t know if Gokey or Sarver were the top male vote getter, we can assume it was Danny, but it doesn’t really matter.

Danny Gokey, Alexis Grace and Michael Sarver are in the TOP 12
Gokey Makes Top 12

What is really impressive is that Michael Sarver sang the song that Matt Giraud sang during audition (Gavin DeGraw - I Don’t Want to be). I think that Giraud’s singing of this song was way better. Matt just has a great one of a kind voice.

Here is Michael Sarver singing, ‘I don’t want to be’ (keep in mind he has backup singers, background music etc.)

Now check out Matt Giraud singing, ‘I don’t want to be’.

I don’t think there is any comparision. Matt’s voice is just better. Good thing Sarver had a little music and background singers to help it along. This was enough to get Sarver into the Top 12!!

Who's singing of 'I don't want to be' do you like better?

Next week Group 2 will perform, the week after that Group 3 and the week after that the Wildcard Round. That’s a long wait!!

Matt Giraud is not in Group 1

February 16th, 2009 by admin

Tomorrow night we will get to see Group 1 perform. Unfortunately Matt Giraud isn’t in Group 1, and we won’t know which group he is in until after this weeks shows. American Idol Season 8 has many changes from earlier seasons. One change that we will notice this week is only 12 of the remaining 36 contestants will perform this week (Group 1). Next week (Group 2) will perform (6 guys, 6 girls), and the following week we will see (Group 3) perform (6 guys, 6 girls).

So, Tuesday the 17th 6 guys, and the 6 girls in Group 1 will perform (Stephen Fowler, Ricky Braddy, Brent Keith Smith, Michael Sarver, Anoop Desai) (Jackie Tohn, Anne Marie Boskovich, Alexis Grace, Stevie Wright, Tatiana Del Toro, Casey Carlson).

On Wednesday the 18th we will get the results. Only 1 guy and one girl from this week will for sure get through to the Top 12 as well as the next highest vote getter (regardless of sex). The same will apply in the following weeks. After everyone has performed we will have 9 contestants through. We will then get to see a Wildcard Round where 12 contestants will be allowed to perform again for the final 3 spots in the Top 12.

It is pretty obvious that we need to vote Matt Giraud. Every vote counts and it will be harder than ever to make it to the Top 12.

Joanna Pacitti Disqualified from American Idol

February 13th, 2009 by admin

As I am sure everyone knows Joanna Pacitti has been kicked off American Idol Season 8. Joanna did qualify for the top 36. However after the show it was released by FOX that she has been ruled ineligible and that she has been replaced by Felicia Barton. The reasoning being her past music career.

VOTE FOR MATT GIRAUD!!!!!

Matt Giraud is in American Idol Top 36

February 12th, 2009 by admin

No surprise, but it is nice to hear. Matt Giraud made it to the American Idol Top 36 for Season 8. Well done Matt! We really didn’t get to see much of Matt other than him being welcomed to the show by Randy Jackson. Matt was obviously very happy, but there had to be a part of him that just knew.

Matt Giraud Finds out he is in the Top 36
Matt Giraud Top 36

I may have been a little quick to comment that I like American Idols Season 8′ new format. Last nights show was not going to be remembered as a great American Idol show. Some of the changes to the Season 8 were more than a little disappointing. American Idol seemed to forget a little bit of what they do best (allow some of America’s finest unknown talent to perform). We didn’t get to see any performances. Instead we were subject to a very unsettling experience. All of the remaining contestants were taken to the terrifying ‘Judges Mansion’ where the contestants were put into a room and they had to wait there turn to see the judges. Each contestant then went alone to see Simon, Randy, Paula and Kara where they were told if they made it to the Top 36 or not. Some contestants were then pitted against each other in a ’sing-off’ where they had to ’sing for their lives’. These were only the contestants who the judges were unsure of. Only one person would be sent through after the ’sing-off’.

As the show wore on we eventually came to realise that we were not going to be treated to any great performances this week on American Idol. The people who make American Idol Season 8 seemed to forget a bit why people watch the show. They want to see great performances. Afterall isn’t American Idol supposed to be about showcasing unknown talents like Matt Giraud? I would have been happier if lasts nights show never happened and all they did was a press release to announce the Top 36 for Season 8.

So, we didn’t get to see Matt Giraud perform last night, but at least we know he is in the Top 36. Not much of a surprise.

A Very Happy Matt Giraud
Matt Giraud Top 36

We won’t get to see Giraud perform next week. The contestants have been split into 3 groups of 12, and only 12 people will perform each week.

Group 1 contestants (next week): Casey Carlson, Stephen Fowler, Jackie Tohn, Ricky Braddy, Anne Marie Boskovich, Brent Keith, Alexis Grace, Michael Sarver, Stevie Wright, Danny Gokey, Tatiana Del Toro, Anoop Desai

When we see Matt Giraud perform next remember it is time to vote and every vote counts. Good Job Matt.
