Matt Giraud doesn’t make the Top 12

That hurts. Matt Giraud didn’t make the Top 12 on this years American Idol. It just goes to show how tough it is this year. One bad performance can kill you. Matt’s choice to sing Coldplay - Viva La Vida last night really hurt him. I was still hoping that he would squeeze his way through off of his previous great performances, but that wasn’t enough.
Before the results were given Ryan Seacrest asked Matt Giraud, “Do you think you did enough?” Matt replied, “I feel like I didn’t get the chance to do enough yet, but if I don’t make it through I’d love to show em that I can do what the want and do the music that got me here.”

Last night Adam Lambert, Kris Allen and Allison Iraheta were voted through to the Top 12. I think we can expect that Matt Giraud will get a second chance in the Wildcard Round. I would be shocked if he didn’t. He has had one bad performance. It is just unfortunate that it happened on such an important night. We know he is capable of so much more.

Next week Group 3 will perform for 3 more spots in the Top 12. Group 3 consists of: Alex Wagner-Trugman, Jorge Nunez, Ju’Not Joyner, Nathaniel Marshall, Scott MacIntyre, Von Smith, Lil Rounds, Arianna Afsar, Felicia Barton, Kendall Beard, Kristen McNamara, Taylor Vaifanua.
The week after that we will get to see the Wildcard and I am sure Matt Giraud will get a second chance. He definitely got knocked down this week, but I think he will really learn from it and he will bounce back. Keep your head up Matt.
So there are 6 spots left in the Top 12. Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Michael Sarver, Alexis Grace and Allison Iraheta are through. Looks like a heavily talented guy season (4 guys, 2 girls).

Kara DioGuardi said, “Matt you blew me away in Hollywood Week. I mean just blew me away, and tonight I’m just not blown away. You know that song is just not the type of song you should be singing. You’re a bluesy, soulful guy and that was lost in that performance. I know you were trying to creat that, but that song doesn’t lend itself to that kind of interpretation. You’re a really good singer, and I’m not sure that showed that side of you.”
Paul Abdul said, “I think you’re ranked right up there as my top, top, top notch from Hollywood Week, but then again we get to see you with your instrument playing and everything feels comfortable. It was a risky song to pick. You’re soulful and you’re trying to instill that soul into a rock song. I saw your rehearsal and your performance here was far better than the rehearsal I saw. I don’t know if it was the right song for you to pick, but I did hear you go for it, and bring what you brought to it. So I hope you are here next week”. Has Paula been drinking? Does she not know how the show works this year? Next week is Group 3.
“Matt I’m actually going to repeat what the girls just said…, it was verging on a horrible performance. It wasn’t just the fact that the song was so bad. It was how you performed it. You turned from someone very cool with the piano singing Ray Charles into a sort of wannabe popstar. In a very jerky uncomfortable way and it’s really put me off you. Sorry. I mean I like your voice. You just did the wrong thing”.
Randy Jackson said, “You know what I gotta agree with Simon, but the thing is you got mad talent so I’m still pulling for you because you’re one of my favorites in this. Watch that back with that Ray Charles. You have to sing difficult songs that you can go at vocally because you’ve got it like that. The simple song stay away from them.”
